Sergeant Douglas Bernard Matthew (1896-1915) served in the 10th Battalion, AIF and died of wounds on 7 July 1915, aged 18. He received the 1914-15 Star metal (2296); British War medal (9804); and the Victory medal (9762). His headstone at Beach Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula reads ‘A Bright Young Life, Sacrificed On The Altar Of Duty. So Dearly Loved’.
